Get up close and personal with adorable wombats, friendly wallabies, and the iconic Tasmanian devils on this highly popular guided shore excursion to Wings Wildlife Park. Nestled on the banks of the Leven River, this award-winning sanctuary boasts the largest collection of Tasmanian wildlife in Australia.
Departing from Burnie, enjoy a picturesque one-hour drive to Gunns Plains, situated at the edge of the Dial Range Forest Reserve. Upon arrival at Wings Wildlife Park, you'll have approximately 2 hours to explore and meet some of the 150 different species that call the park home.
Founded in 1986 by a local family, Wings Wildlife Park is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating injured wildlife. Whenever possible, rehabilitated animals are released back into the wild, while those that cannot return to their natural habitat are given a permanent, safe home under the care of experienced staff.
A major highlight of the park is the Tasmanian devils. Additionally, you can encounter koalas, kangaroos, quolls, sugar gliders, wedge-tailed eagles, and a variety of reptiles such as carpet pythons and central bearded dragons. The park also features non-native species including meerkats, capuchins, marmosets, American bison, alpacas, and camels. Wildlife presentations and feedings occur throughout the day, and you can experience one-on-one animal encounters for an additional fee. Feeding the kangaroos is always a visitor favorite.
After touring the park, relax with a hot or cold drink at the on-site café, which also offers ice creams and delicious meals catering to all dietary needs. The gift shop is well-stocked with wildlife-themed souvenirs.
On the return journey, you'll travel through the scenic Leven Valley to the coast and enjoy a drive through the charming village of Penguin.
